TikTok chief Kevin Mayer quits in wake of Trump ban threat

Earlier this month, the US president signed an executive purchase to block TikTok if ByteDance did not end the app’s US functions by the middle of September. A 7 days later on, he issued another purchase supplying ByteDance ninety times to finish the deal.

In June, the firm was also on the acquiring end of a ban from the Indian government after it blocked 59 Chinese apps following a border clash in between India and China.

Mayer wrote to the Indian government declaring Beijing had never requested person info, nor would TikTok transform it more than if asked.

ByteDance has been in talks to sell TikTok’s North American, Australian and New Zealand functions, which could be worthy of $25bn (£18.9bn), to providers which include Microsoft Corp and Oracle, Reuters claimed.

Mr Mayer only formally took up the position at TikTok on June 1. 

TikTok claimed: “We take pleasure in that the political dynamics of the previous handful of months have significantly altered what the scope of Kevin’s position would be heading forward, and entirely regard his decision. We thank him for his time at the firm and want him very well.”
