Maharashtra Sugar Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad reiterated that sugar mills that have unsuccessful to spend FRP to farmers will not get permission to begin the sugarcane crushing season. The decision could possibly have an impact on general sugarcane crushing in the State.
Speaking at a current assembly organised by the State Cooperative Minister Balasaheb Patil in Mumbai Gaikwad explained, “Permissions to begin sugar mills will not be supplied until the FRP total is cleared. This has a good impression as sugarcane producers are receiving their dues. In the following few days, a lot more mills are readying to spend FRP.”
Minister Patil explained that sugar mills will have to formally announce the cost they are going to spend sugarcane farmers so that farmers are not deceived and duped.
