Arecanut production sees 55% jump in 5 years

Arecanut creation in the place has witnessed a development of fifty five for every cent above the final 5 yrs, if the composed reply in Rajya Sabha is any indication.

In a composed reply to the Rajya Sabha member KC Ramamurthy, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, said that Karnataka, Assam, Kerala, Tripura, Meghalaya and West Bengal are the significant producers of arecanut in the place.

Karnataka, which contributes almost seventy five for every cent to the domestic creation, noticed a development of ninety five for every cent in creation in the previous 5 yrs. Overall creation in the Condition elevated to eight.five lt in 2019-20 from four.36 lt in 2015-sixteen, registering a development of 94.ninety five for every cent.

It said that the place and creation of arecanut has been revised in Karnataka from 2018-19 onwards, based on the finish enumeration employing GPS-enabled mobile app for estimation of place under diverse crops.

Kerala and Meghalaya noticed a drop in arecanut creation through the period amongst 2015-sixteen and 2019-20. The minister’s reply said that most of the arecanut developed in the place is consumed domestically and India’s share of export in the world-wide industry is considerably less than five for every cent.

When the member preferred to know the constraints confronted by the ministry in constituting an ‘Arecanut Board’ on the strains of Coffee Board, Rubber Board, Tea Board, and many others, the minister replied that there are already a range of organizations this kind of as the Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Progress (DASD), the Central Plantation Crops Analysis Institute (CPCRI), and the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Internet marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (Campco) that are operating to market arecanut and guard pursuits of arecanut farmers.
